When you think of the word "homeless," what image comes to mind? Do you think about:

These are real families and individuals who have faced homelessness in the Austin area. Green Doors' goal is to return residents to self-sufficiency through stable housing, individualized case management and self-sufficiency programs. Founded in 1990 by a formerly homeless young woman, Green Doors' mission is to prevent and help end homelessness and poverty housing for those working to achieve independent living in Central Texas.

Green Doors accomplishes this by: creating affordable, safe, quality housing; providing residents with access to supportive services; and educating about, and advocating for, individuals and families struggling with homelessness and at-risk for homelessness.

Tonight, more than 150,000 veterans will sleep on the streets of America. In Austin alone, there are more than 920 veterans homeless on any given night, and more than 1,400 experienced homelessness last year.

We've Changed Our Name!

Community Partnership for the Homeless is now Green Doors! It is a change I have been looking forward to since I started with the organization three years ago. Some of you may be wondering what took so long and others why we are changing our name at all.
